Coming soon, PBS documentary series POV will air Biblioburro: The Donkey Library, the story of Colombian grade school teacher Luis Soriano who began a book program in the violent and poverty-stricken region of Magdalena Province with just two donkeys and a dream. The film, shot in 2009 by Colombian director Carlos Rendón Zipagauta, has had such an enormous response from viewers in the form of donations, that Soriano now has a real bricks and mortar library to serve the kids of his home village, La Gloria.
The PBS premiere of Biblioburro: The Donkey Library will be July 18, 2011 on POV, and the film will be online at PBS.org from July 20 to September 18, 2011. Check local listings for times.
